WAXON Studio is proud to be open for business in the heart of West Asheville. We provide the materials and experience needed to create one of a kind, professional batik and hand-dyed garments that clients can learn to make themselves. Book a class on your schedule, right from our website! Once here, choose which garment(s) you’d like to dye, which colors you want to use, and what patterns or designs you’d like to try. You’ll be given enough assistance to create an amazing work of art! With a retail area featuring batiks and hand dyed garments and housewares designed and created in house, it’s easy to find the perfect unique gift.
Most days, we offer fun and interesting workshops in a variety of dye techniques, from Modern Tie Dyeing to Shibori. WAXON studio believes in the mission of “I made it in Asheville” for both locals and tourists alike.
WAXON Batik & Dye Studio was founded in 2015 by local teacher Jessica Kaufman, M.A. Crafts Education (Prescott College), B.S. Teaching Theatre Arts (Appalachian State University). Jessica learned fabric dyeing while working at Gwynn Valley Camp in Brevard, and then went on to teach and design crafts curricula in Montessori and Semester schools. She is passionate about teaching and making batik, the art of hot wax resist on fabric. WAXON vends locally and regionally at arts and music festivals each summer.
